My mission as an artist is to focus on environmental awareness. Through visual arts I feel like we can make A difference in bringing more awareness to people of all ages, by exposing them to exhibitions, programs and Art projects in which allows them to see that there is a deep meaning in their lives connected to the planet. As an artist my initial start was creating paintings with litter and disposables. It was something I began doing in my youth, it was my message in art I found. Through the years I realized that there was much more meaning behind the environmental movement. Reaching for art to play a pivotal role in what I found is my life’s mission: I call it Make Art Matter. Make Art Matter started with me just showing my art work in exhibits leaving printed out documentation of all the research I had found about municipal waste, and pollution how it was harming many areas of the planet, all our beautiful animals that lived here, and yes us we are in many way affected by this. Not realizing it but every time you use something in fact you are stealing a piece of our nature, and what makes it even worse is very often people litter what we take, they don’t bother to recycle it. Or, they are negligence to realize that their over using is just adding to the masses. I then realized that the people that are most affected by this are children. Children who sit in the dark, clouded by society’s habit of turning a blind eye, we keep them in the dark. They watch T.V, they listen to music and they live in their own worlds. Some who are in already at-risk situations how could they even be given a chance to care about the environment? I ask myself this all the time as I see young people today care about what they look like, watching a particular show, or just not caring about anything. How can we get them to find the true meaning of life on earth? I type this thinking wow am I writing a story for some mellow dramatic life time movie. No, I’m writing what I’ve been seeing the last 2 years of my mission to Make Art Matter. As an artist my mission is to: Make Art Matter that is my statement. I want to make art matter for the planet. Through a few different approaches here on this website you will see just one way. Through my artwork exploring regions which I found to be disrespected by our waste, Mother Nature slapped in the face because someone was too lazy to walk a few feet to a trash can. Or, even worse there were no trash cans available. I will soon have another website up to show the Make Art Matter youth projects. That website calls for a little more detail and I’m currently working on another project for ocean conservation. Once this project is complete – Aug/Sept 09 I will then put all the Make Art Matter for the planet photos/info.
