The make art matter for water conservation was a 6 week project in Miami Fl.
Students at little river learned about the Everglades the main fresh water source in Fl. Students had to find ways around school, and their home that would help save water. The second part of the project was to have them learn about the Everglades restoration plan. With the help of Young Friends of Everglades, American Everglades and the Army Corps CERPS group and their PR team Son Shine communications this was possible. The kids took part in a water precipitation project, had guest speakers come out and talk to them about the plan to save the everglades. They also, got a chance to put their artistic abilities "the art part" to work. They created an exhibit for critters of the Everglades. The project was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed this so much. What made it even better was they were able to take part in the March for parks 2009 which was a trip to the everglades. That was the best part I think when it comes to teaching our kids about our environmental challenges and what areas of the planet are effected by these issues its also to allow our kids to see and experience these places first hand. It blows text book work out the water I think them actually going to the Everglades and being surrounded in the essence of this majestic place set the stage for them to always love nature and appreciate it hopefully they think twice before they let the water running.
